Maureen King, a former Widnes Wasp, passed away on the
30th November, shortly after her 50th birthday, following a
four-and-a-half year fight against breast cancer.
Maureen was a member of the Wasps for several years from
1991 and twice ran the London Marathon, in 1992 and again
in 1995 with our current chair Linda Moore. In recent years
Maureen attended several of our social functions.
Several Wasps attended her funeral at St Bede's RC Church,
Widnes, and our thoughts are with her husband Jem and her
family, especially her sister and fellow Wasp, Diane
Cosgrove.
Diane would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and
those who have made donations in lieu of flowers to The
Lilac Centre, St Helens.
For the last three years Maureen has organised a Pink Ball at
Halton Stadium, which has raised many thousands of pounds
for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The ball will be held again
in her memory on Saturday February 12th 2011. For ticket
information please contact Nicky Fagan, at Stadium Fitness
on 0151 510 6020 or speak to Linda or Diane.
