Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Widnes Wasps'
founding member, Chris Bolton, who died in August at the age
of 55.
Chris was instrumental in setting up the Widnes Wasps in 1987
when she advertised in a local paper for like-minded women
to run with. She was the club's first chairperson and she
completed three London marathons whilst running with the club.
College studies took Chris away from the club in the
mid-nineties, we were all pleased to see her at our 20th
anniversary celebrations last year, without Chris the Widnes
Wasps would not exist today.
Several members attended Chris' funeral on August 22nd to
represent the club and we have subsequently collected £74 in
her memory. This has, at her family's request, been donated
to the NSPCC.
At our AGM, on August 26th, we voted to rename one of our
trophies 'The Chris Bolton Trophy', to be awarded annually
to the most improved runner.
