Widnes Wasps Ladies Running Club was established in 1987, by
a group of eight women who started jogging in Victoria Park.
For several years the Widnes Wasps met at Widnes RUFC. We
are now based at Widnes Recreation Club.
We meet on Tuesdays for a steady run of between 5 and 7 miles.
On a Tuesday we invite beginners to join us. We have a
beginners' rota, two experienced runners run with the beginners.
The distance run being chosen by the beginners, with advise from
experienced members. Our Sunday runs are longer and are
primarily for experienced runners. We also meet on Thursdays,
by mutual agreement, for more specialised training.
One of the few all-female running clubs we draw members from
a wide area; Widnes, Runcorn, Warrington, St Helens, Prescot,
Huyton, Frodsham and Helsby.
We have about 30 members, ranging in age from 20+ to 60+.
We have members of all abilities, beginners to experienced
racers. Whether you're a 12-minute miler or a 7-minute miler
you'll always be welcome.
Our members take part in races from 5k to marathons. Many
members run in the Liverpool Women's 10k each May. We don't
take ourselves too seriously. It's all about taking part, keeping
fit and having fun.
We are a sociable club. We meet for a drink on the last Tuesday
of the month, after our run!!! We hold social events
throughout the year.
We're looking for new members and promise to make you very
welcome.
