The Widnes Wasps' 20th anniversary reunion on June 29th saw
about 20 former members and 20 existing members getting
reacquainted and sharing reminiscences over a few drinks and a
buffet at Widnes Recreation Club.
Among the guests were some of the club's founding or
earliest members such as Chris Bolton, Margaret Hill, June
Caroll, Janet Unsworth and Sheila Fredson, plus some long
standing members who are still with us now, including Sue
Campbell, Val McWha, Jeanie Cliff, Maggie Williams and
Barbara Shepherd.
The club's first chairperson, Maggie Williams, gave an
entertaining run down of the club's history and a highly amusing
'Who wants to be a Widnes Wasps Star' quiz, with Val McWha
showing her knowledge of the Wasps' history and high jinx -
with a little help from the audience, phone-a-friend and 50:50!
It was great to see Keith Roe, our original and only male
member, as a special guest and to remind him of what he's
been missing since he departed to foreign parts... well,
Chester, anyway!
The video footage from 'This Morning with Judy and Richard'
was an eye-opener, as were all the old photos across the
decades.
Here's to the next 20 years....
A DVD of the Wasp's first 20 years in photographs is available
for a £5 donation to the Breast Cancer Care Campaign.
